Department of Pharmacology

About Department of Pharmacology

The Department of Pharmacology stands as a cornerstone of pharmaceutical education and research, deeply committed to exploring and understanding the intricate mechanisms of drug action, efficacy, and safety. Our primary objective is to equip students and researchers with a robust foundation in pharmacological sciences while encouraging innovation in drug discovery and development.

By integrating principles of basic biomedical sciences with insights from clinical practice, we foster a dynamic and translational research environment. Our faculty and students are actively engaged in investigating novel therapeutic agents, evaluating drug safety profiles, and studying the molecular basis of disease. This approach enhances academic learning and contributes to real-world healthcare advancements.

With a strong emphasis on ethics, scientific rigor, and interdisciplinary collaboration, we continue to play a vital role in shaping the future of pharmacological research and healthcare innovation.

Research Domains
  • Neuropharmacology and Psychopharmacology: Evaluation of CNS-active agents on behavior, memory, anxiety, depression, and neurodegeneration using in vivo and in vitro models.
  • Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disorders: Pharmacological studies on diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, focusing on insulin sensitivity, glycemic control, and vascular function.
  • Anti-inflammatory and Analgesic Drug Evaluation: Screening compounds for inflammation, pain, oxidative stress, with traditional and novel pathway focus.
  • Cancer Biology and Pharmacogenomics: Research on anticancer agents, cytotoxicity, and genetic factors for personalized therapy.
  • Herbal Drug Research and Pharmacovigilance: Validation and standardization of medicinal plants, monitoring for adverse reactions and interactions.
  • Toxicological Studies and Safety Pharmacology: Preclinical toxicity assessments and regulatory compliance research.
Facilities and Resources
  • CCSEA-approved Animal House Facility for in vivo experiments
  • Equipment for behavioral, biochemical, and histopathological studies
  • In vitro labs for cytotoxicity, antioxidant, and cell culture assays
  • Digital organ baths, actophotometers, plethysmographs, rotarod, electroconvulsiometers
